Caribou – Odessa

Caribou I don’t get electronic in a technical sense.  To the point where I struggle to distinguish between house & trance & whatever else is fashionable this week.

In general I like what I like, and this song I like.

Caribou is the stage name of Dan Snaith, a Canadian Indie-Electronica DJ. This song comes off his upcoming CD Swims, released April 25th.

It has catchy, twangly backing track, with a dominant bass line and features Hot Chip like hooky vocals and guitar.

Intense, bouncy enough to make you move in your seat, if not get up and actually dance, the four and a half minutes form a great track for building up the crowd at the start of your summer party.

When I define my own genre of electrotwang, this will appear on the best of.

Dude – this is not electronica in any sense of the word. It’s good, I like it, but it’s far closer to Handsome Furs/Casiotone than house/dubstep/drum and base/techno etc.

One day I’ll have to teach you the difference.

    I Disagree

Its definitely electronic based. Doesn’t fit into house/dubstep/d&b etc but still has an electronic backing, and a main electronic beat.

Its electronic in the LCD soundsystem/Hot chip sense of the word. Electro indy yes, but still definitely electro. The vocals are audible, but that doesn’t disqualify it.
